Since I'm traveling from SLC, 'thought I better ask this beforehand: I just checked weather and it looks decent with a 30% chance of showers both days (roughly).
Does the BLM watch weather closely in regards to events like this? Meaning, will they force a postponement due to weather if they deem the conditions poor enough to harm the trails?
(someone mentioned it's a fairly sand-based dirt, so maybe this isn't an issue at all).
Some input would be great - thanks.

Race will be on this weekend regardless. The soil at Pipestone takes on water very well. Rocks/roots will be slick in the technical sections if it rains.

Ok good to hear.
I'm going to come up from Dillon Saturday for tech and I'd like to ride to dial suspension and jetting. Didn't you say there is plenty of "non-race-course-trails" available for riding Saturday?
Also - speaking of conditions with rocks / roots - do many people (racers) use trials tires up there? I'll have both with me, but curious.

One more question - I'm out of state and 'am registered in Utah. Will I need to get an MT sticker as well? And if so, can they be bought at the event?

kga109, as far as the MT sticker you won't need it as long as you have a current UT sticker, spark arrestor, and are sound legal through tech inspection. Other than that bring a good attitude and you'll have a blast.
The soil up there is far better for knobbies than trials tires. Many sections of the course are more sandy and loose. Yes, there are plenty of rocks but nothing like the Big Sky XC rocks either.
Cheers and best of luck to ya, Ryno

Great, thanks.
What about riding on Saturday? Will I be able to get out to ride a little in the area?

There is plenty of area there on the west side of the hill. I'm not sure how the course will be laid out this year but the area of the Homestake exit there will be plenty available which is similar terrain/trails. The race is held on the Pipestone side of the hill which will have tighter trails and terrain for the race. But at least you'll get a feel for the dirt and surroundings some.
Basically look at the map and anything west of Delmoe Lake should be ok to ride. If this is incorrect Jamey or Joe will chime in.
