I strongly agree with the No points no Scoring system for riders racing in other areas, I love Montana tracks, but with the advancement system, i can only race a couple races a year, i would sure like to be able race more then 3 a year. what about 250 two strokes?

Hey fellow MX'ers, We are from WA and my 16 year old son had been asking to race some MT events. So we showed up to a couple of races, and what a blast he had! We felt very welcome and just loved the relaxed atmosphere. It made racing just like it should be: FUN. And we currently are not card holders (but I think we will be for 2011) and not trying to tell you all how to run your races, just giving our perspective.
Now my son is a "c" (jr) racer and at big races is lucky to get a top 10, so we show up and innocently enter the c class, like we always do. It doesn't mean that we were sandbaggers from another state, and after the first moto of the day, I couldn't tell if my son was just on fire that day, or the fast c guys didn't show up. But on the second race we entered the b class (normally considered the int. class), and he dominated that also. So are we supposed to enter the "a " class so we don't "sandbag" and take all the trophies? Then risk being booted out of his ama C standing? And are kids supposed to drive that far to race and not even have a chance to trophy? (remember, they are just kids) If a guy shows up and races a couple of events he isn't going to foul up the points because he isn't in the series.
I guess some people would say just to stay home, but is that what people want? Keep the competition away and have an exclusive club? Or realize that even at other tracks some fast guy will show up smoke everyone. Do we want that person to just go away? Or welcome them with open arms as a fellow MX'er? (and bring more business) I don't know what the answer is, because I'm not the one doing all the work of organizing events. And I know Montana folks are proud of not conforming to the ama and nma, but when things aren't aligned across the county, this is what happens.
My other concern is for the 250 2 stroke. I see that people want it out of the so-called 125 class. I would love to see a true 125cc class. But are we talking about the 122-250cc class or the 250cc class or the 125cc class? The ama and nma for 2011 is being two stroke friendly for the amateurs because they know that more guys can afford the things. Going back to ten year old rules when this class disparity started, and putting more nails in the coffin of the 2 stroke is bad for the sport. We have a 2010 rmz250 and a 250 2t and 125's, and have ridden alot of 450's. And basically a 250 is a 250. Depending on the rider, and track conditions each have +'s and -'s. And the 450 is an open class bike, not even the same class of bike. Again, depending on riders and conditions. And we also raced the two stroke only class, but hardly anybody signs up for it.
Sorry to be so long winded, but again, my son had so much fun coming to Montana to race. We could show up with either a 5 year old 250cc two stroke, or a brand new 250cc four stroke and go have fun racing the 250 class.
Hopefully the politics of meeting agendas don't ruin your wonderful atmosphere.

Very good points...
We should be looking to increase our riders to a series rather than reduce. The economy is already reducing the numbers plenty right now. If someone is new to the sport and can only afford a 2-stroke, they should be welcomed to ride. If someone is coming all the way to Montana to race, they should be welcomed and encouraged to race where they feel is the correct "Montana" class. If I go out of state to race, most are very happy to see that we traveled so far to their venue. Most will drop a class out of state because of the competition (with many more classes to choose from, this is much easier for Montanan's), but some coming to our races in Montana will struggle to fit into our class structure.
Hope everyone keeps a level head tomorrow and looks at the reasons why we have a great series in Montana....

I am responding to the two tracks in one weekend talk. I see some downfalls but probably see more upsides. I have a few questions- If we did the two tracks in one weekend would the season be shortened? That would be a definite upside. I also was wondering if we could have more double gate drops to speed up the race day?

Every class that can be run with another is already double drops. There are classes that simply can not be dropped with another class due to several factors from safety, duplicate riders (ie 80A/Supermini), or size of the class.
