Transponders are the race lap counting and scoring system the HCMA uses to make sure riders are given the correct order for points at the end of a Moto. A transponder is a small device that attaches to your front fork behind the front number plate of your dirt bike. This device sends a signal to a computer every time the bike crosses the finish line. The computer registers the race order and lap times of the rider. This is how we score the Moto and assign the race points.
You have the option to purchase a transponder from the HCMA with a one year subscription to MyLaps, the manufacturer of the Transponders. After one year, you can add another 1 year, 2 year, or 5 year subscription to the existing transponder you own, based on your future racing plans. The MyLaps transponders are not specific to the HCMA. Many other series and events use transponders, and the X2 will work with other race organizations in our region.
If you do not want to purchase a transponder, the HCMA will rent one to a racer, for the race day for $10.
The Transponders that are now being sold from MyLaps are new and improved, compared to the Original "Orange" transponders that are for rent from the HCMA and have been used in the past by our race series.
Please visit MyLaps.com, go to the store, and look at the X2 MX model.
This X2 MX Model does require a new bracket to mount to your fork, in you have used an original "orange" MX transponder in the past. You will need to purchase a bracket from the HCMA for whichever transponder you decide to use for the day, or the season. They are reusable and mount with two Zip ties.
Transponders are not rider specific, you and other riders in your family, or friends in your group, may be able to share a transponder on race day.
You will want to check the HCMA Race Day Moto Order on hcmamt.org/schedules to verify that racers sharing transponders do not run at the same time or back to back. That would be the only hold up for using one transponder per day.
